Gender, corruption and migration

In this 3-minute video by capacity4dev researcher Ortrun Merkle discusses the link between gender, migration and corruption. Financial transactions likely come to mind when the topic of corruption and migration comes up. Female migrants, however, often find that their body is the currency for exchange, both during transit and also upon arrival to a new country.

The term 'sextortion' has been coined to capture abuses of power involving sexual exploitation, which typically are not penalised under criminal law or addressed in efforts to mitigate corruption risks.
